USB to MIDI adapter

I have a problem with a Compaq which has only USB parallel/gameport connections. I found a cheap ($14.00) USB to gameport adapter, but I don't think it will work with midi. I already have the Portman PC/P which I use at home on my computer, but I am trying to avoid purchasing a USB midi port adapter for just one computer. I have checked out the Midiman USB 1x1 adapter etc., but like I mentioned, I prefer not to shell out another $70. Anyone seen any USB/gameport adapter schematics anywhere or any good, low cost alternatives?

Did you find anything that worked? I have a Pressario 730AP with nothing but USB and I have nothing but serial cables to a Roland Sound canvas. The USB to serial cable causes the midi to bunch up and get out of time
