Reverb, Amp Sim, weird Ring Modulator...or software processors that live on a card (e.g., UAD-2, Duende Mini, etc.).

Waves' GTR Solo is extremely cool for the price...sort of GTR's Greatest Hits. Native instruments did the same kind of play with Guitar Rig XE.

I'd also give major props to Universal Audio's UAD-2. They stuffed a lot of power on a single board. I'm still blown away that the Quad version of the UAD-2 can do 128 instances of a Neve channel strip.

How about Celemony's Melodyne Direct Note Access?

I still can't figure out how they do it. :)

Peavey Revalver MKIII and HP for me - best sounds out of a software based modeler I have ever heard or played.

Waves' GTR Solo is also excellent sounding with a great interface, but it eats way more CPU than revalver for some reason.

For me, 2008's killer software release was Peavey's ReValver MkIII. It is an amazing program already, and nowhere to go but up from an already auspicious beginning.

For me virtual mix is the best one.

Considering they are free in the update, MOTU's Leveler and Pro Verb sound great, CPU friendly and easy to get quick and useable results from.
