Hello there all
Firstly thanks a lot to those who helped with my recent Les Paul query. While I still do not yet own any Les Pauls of any description, your comments were very helpful. Cheers and Merry Christmas!
Anyhow, what about this: anyone heard anything about these new limited PRS things, the 57/08 limited Customs, McCartys, etc.?
Details here: http://www.prsguitars.com/news/2008/100808_5708.html
Has anyone played or seen one?
And, although I hate the idea of investing -- like, I think, most people on this site I'm a player, and NOT a collector -- do you think the value will hold well in time to come?
Thanks a lot

Every PRS that is well kept keeps their resale value very well. The SE editions are the only exception but as ones have been brought in and then discontinued they are even keeping a steady market price.
If you are looking to invest in a guitar, this wouldnt be a bad opportunity...But dont get sticker shock when you see the prices cause they are up there for this limited run and will fetch a high amount.
I, like yourself, am a player. But I play PRS live exclusively. This guitar wouldnt be a player, so if you are looking for the pups you could call PRS and see if you could order them for your own PRS.

I've not seen a PRS guitar that doesn't hold it's value. You certainly can't go wrong with PRS if you are concerned about resale.

The reason why they hold value is a lot of people hold on to theirs, so there's not a glut of second-hand stuff.
Disclaimer: I love PRS guitars and own three.
However, there seems to be something about once certain items became perceived as collectable, the mystique that made them collectable fades, and sometimes they lose their collectibility.
This can be because the market becomes over-saturated with the item. I.e, scarcity makes an item valuable. Thus, the limited edition PRS may retain its value.
A problem may occur when too many limited edition runs are released. One for a certain purpose, one for another, one for another. Then, while each limited edition may be rare or scarce unto itself, the scarcity of all "limited editions" is reduced.
Eh. Just musing here and thinking about other "collectable" items that have lost value:
Baseball cards - They used to be valuable in the 70's-80's but at least one news article indicates the new ones purchased after they were perceived as collectable are now fairly worthless.
Beanie Babies - Similar situation
EVH Frankenstein Strat - About $25,000 when it was issued in a limited number of about 300. A manager at the local GC let me stop by and play one. Thank the stars I didn't have that kind of cash, because some later showed up on eBay for $17k.
My point? It's better to invest in more reliable investments, like the stock market...
Oh wait... Did I say "reliable" and "stock market" together?...
Then again, maybe right now is a good time to invest in the market.
