Or, do you get to instill your own style into their music?

Yes... I mostly play rock and heavier styles of music. I try to adapt and fit into whatever situation that I'm in as best as I can. People pretty much know that when they hire me that I have an aggressive and energetic style.
David Lee Roth and VH have a lot of swing feel to their tunes and there's a lot of playing going on. Going from 8 years with DLR to Army Of Anyone was a big switch. The DeLeo Bros have their own style goin' on for sure and it's a very different feel and groove.
I play MUCH more aggressive in Korn than in any other band I've ever been in, you have to throw down bigtime in this band and I LOVE it!
What's really cool about all of the past bands I've been a part of is that they let me play like "Ray" plays. That's very important to me. Of course I have to play the signature fills and grooves that's on the original hit records, but I get to put my own vibe and feel into everything I do now.
I encourage every pro musician out there to play for the tunes and really try to listen to what the other musicians are doing no matter what style you're playing. That just makes the tunes and your show way better and the audience will feel it more.
