Ray, how did you get your start drumming?

Did you start out in the school band, or was it a parent's decision to buy you a drum kit?

Or were you a late bloomer who just decided they'd like to play the drums?

Hi Dr. Nick,
I started playing when I was 8 just playing along to a TON of records in my home outside of Pittsburgh, PA. I was self taught with basic training and reading in high school marching, concert and jazz bands. I had a rock band and we played some clubs. I moved to Hollywood went to P.I.T. (Musicians Institute) which was amazing and life changing. I learned a bunch of different styles and made a lot of contacts there.
I've been playing pro and have been making a living only playing drums and teaching music for 20 years now.
I'm on the cover of Drumhead magazine coming out in January that has a very detailed story about my childhood!
