I have some legitimate questions regarding practice:
for instance: working to the metronome
I'm setting at like 320 - but every 4th is accented where I use it as the 1/4 (like playing at 80 bpm) then play the double bass to the 320
is this more of a crutch? is it a good idea?
or: technique
holding the sticks and hits - specifically hitting the snare. I find that the shock from playing heavy can irritate my hand after a while. I focus on "throwing" the stick at the snare - and allowing it to rebound loose in my hand. essentially, I am "catching" the stick after a hit.
I've read a lot of "advice" on this (like: moeller technique) but, how about advice from someone who's doing it for real?
how about: positive attitude/striving to improve
how important is it to get your mind in "the right place?" where is "the right place?"
the music industry seems to have some fairly unstable/creative/drug & alcohol personalities -which I would have to kind of avoid. Unless there's more "image" to this scenario than the reality.
how hard is it to stay sober or positive on the road?
