Perhaps we will see an end to the spam now and get back to providing useful information in spotting conterfeit guitars, I hope so.

We've all been covering it up 'til now.
I think I've deleted more spambot stuff off this forum than all the others combined. Not sure why this place is such a target. :idk:

Yup, it's been a group effort. I check this forum about every hour when possible, and there are usually at least a couple of threads that need to be deleted.
I thought putting a named moderator might help. But maybe it's the "Counterfeit" thing that's a magnet ("oh boy, a place to showcase counterfeit stuff!").
Any suggestions for a forum title that doesn't sound like something a spambot would fall in love with?

Come to think of it, maybe it's not word-related. The DJ Booth forum is getting slammed too, although not as bad as this one.

I nominate the name HoneyPot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honeypot_(computing)) as I would assume most bot programs are aware of that word. Alas it doesn't convey any secondary meaning for people to know this is about conterfeit or stolen merchandise.
The spam problem on the internet is way out of wack. Where is interpol? They're all about warning me not to copy dvd's but who is the police on the internet? There are none. Makes for easy spamming.
so in short I have no actual answer it seems. Wish I did. If I had a solution I'd open source it and become poor on the profits. But imagine the karma.

"Real-ity Check"?
...(on a similar note - my home network seems to be getting less attacks since I named it virus and the attached machines virus1, virus2, virus3...)

It's been a really long time since I registered here but I wonder is there the typical "have to click an email link to get your account activated" thing?
When I turned this on for my own forums my spam went from a problem like this to nearly zero.
Just a thought.

I changed the URL in case it's bookmarked in the spambot's little brain. This means it screws up any bookmarks you guys have for this forum, but maybe it will keep the spammers at bay for a few minutes.

Yeah I yank stuff out of here all the time too. I get way more reports from here than I do amps and CJ combined. :idk: It's fairly impressive how much spam we get here.

We have that AND we have the deal where you have to interpret several non-machine readable characters.
Apparently what happens is a human does that stuff, then turns things over to the spambots.

"Caveat Emptor?"
That would be my favorite nomination for a new title -- just add a subtitle explaning that this is the forum about counterfeit pieces.
