In what setting did you hear him? I have a great Dave Douglas CD with Potter and recently saw him with Herbie Hancock at Carnegie Hall. Potter seems to be the standard bearer for modern tenor playing in a post-Brecker world.

got some of his solo album (lift, follow the red line:eek:, gratitudes) and others with Dave Holland (critical mass, overtime [big band:thu:])... Potter seems to be the standard bearer for modern tenor playing in a post-Brecker world.
Joshuah Redman is also a good one

I seen Redman with Brian Blade last march at the Village Vanguard, fantastic. They played two tunes in 11.

True. I love the albums with Sam Yahel on keys (ex "Elastic"). I caught Redman MANY years ago on his first tour with Metheny, McBride, and Higgins backing him. :thu:
Others tenors of our time:
Donny McCaslin
Mark Turner
David Sanchez
