Freetime, it always amazes me when people make likenesses of Jesus in different ethnicities. I've seen Jesus as Asian, White, Black (like your pic), Redhead, Rastafarian, etc..I would understand, if we didn't know where He came from, or what His lineage was...But we do. Jesus wasn't Black any more than He was White...He was Jewish, at least in His physical form when He was here. Now, I know Barrack Obama would have a MAJOR issue with this, since God is Black and Africa was the "real" promised land and all (LOLLS!!!), but - in this case - he's wrong.

Jesus could have been black. If there were any blacks in that part of the world at that time (I'm sure there were some) they would have be raised with local values i.e. Jewish.
Maybe he was black. Maybe that's why everyone was so pissed off at him.
Or maybe he was a black women. Maybe that's why they killed him.

I have no problem bashing Christians. They bash all sorts of things but always play it like they don't. If you are Christian, you believe in God and the Bible. If you believe in God and the Bible, then you believe in Hell. If you are Christian and believe in Hell then you believe those that disagree with you and don't believe in God are going to Hell. This is 100% inarguable IF you are Christian. I always take offense at those who claim I should be punished for eternity for disagreeing with them. Christians like to argue these facts are not true, but we all know they are. I am one of the few here who has actually STUDIED the Bible outside of my own original religious sect and spent a lot of time exploring this in my younger days. Most who argue, only read the bible from the perspective that serves them best. Its not a book of pick and choose yet most do... Fine if you want to do that, but then there is NO WAY you are Christian.... Plus most things written then have a serious lack of perspective and wallow in relativity. But go for it, live by a 2000 year old book
Now for the best joke ever-
The Kentucky fried chicken people come to the Pope and make him an offer. They offer him 20 million dollars to change the Lords Prayer to "our daily chicken" instead of bread. The Pope declines saying it would be sacrilege. The KFC people counter and offer him 50 million dollars, pointing out how much good he could do with that money. He again declines, its just too historical of a prayer. The KFC guys make a final offer of 100 million dollars, again pointing out how many hungry children it could help and families and spreading the word of God. Wouldn't God over look it because of all the amazing good it would do? The Pope just can't say no. Its too much money to turn down and he agrees.
The next day he calls a meeting with all the Cardinals. "Gentlemen" he begins, "I have brought you good news and bad news..."
"The good news is the church is now 100 million dollars richer..."
"The BAD news is we lost the Wonder Bread Account!"

Aside from your last sentence being completely wrong (you're disagreeing with the Bible, not them--which is your right), exactly how does this hurt you?
My last sentence isn't wrong... You are a fool for semantics. Another Christian technique. And it doesn't hurt me, it hurts the developementof humans as a whole. Theres a reason Christianity is losing power- knowledge is becoming too prominent.
Im sorry but if you think my friends and family should burn in hell because they don't agree with you, yes thats still true if you believe in the Bible Mr. semantic warrior, then thats offensive. Since the Bible ISNT real (its a STORY), then the responsibility falls on the believer, not the book. Try taking responsibility for youself and not putting it on a book.
I guarantee if I told you your family should burn in hell, you might take it poorly. But you will argue some semantic BS like all Christians do to make it seem like thats not so bad. It is. Eternal punishment for not believeing in the Easter bunny is INSANE.
Any religion that started out for the benefit of ONLY a small group of people is complete BS. And theres a reason Christianity had to be forced to places like Asia and Africa- IT wasn't MADE UP in those places. If there really was a God, he wouldn't have ANY "chosen" people. Thats elite BS!
But if your life is so pitiful that you need a big Daddy in the sky telling you your a good person- go for it! I think its just another way people deal with death and what they don't understand- Just like ALL ancient civs believed in magic and spirits. Ignorant people need something to make them feel OK about what their tiny minds cannot grasp!

Im sorry but if you think my friends and family should burn in hell because they don't agree with you, yes thats still true if you believe in the Bible Mr. semantic warrior, then thats offensive. Except that the Bible doesn't suggest you "should" burn in Hell. According to the Bible, that choice is yours and yours alone. It's certainly not Christians telling you you should rot in Hell. That's your own misinterpretation of what Christianity is or isn't.

I don't know a single Christian who believes that. That's what's called in debate a Straw Man.
Any religion that started out for the benefit of ONLY a small group of people is complete BS.
According to the Bible, Christianity started out as a chance for the whole world to be reconciled to God. It is you understanding and conclusions that are BS.
You aren't any different than the religious leaders of Israel in the time of Christ-they wanted Jesus killed because his existence convicted them of their own sin. It is something within you, not anything from without that is bothering you. If you were fulfilled as a person nothing anyone else said about you would matter.
Eternal punishment for not believeing in the Easter bunny is INSANE.
Indeed. Which is what you're doing, isn't it? Think about it-you're wasting time arguing about a god who you think doesn't exist sending you to an imaginary place. If you truly believe it's nonsense, what's the point in arguing about it?
Ignorant people need something to make them feel OK about what their tiny minds cannot grasp!
Ignorant people often need to destroy the beliefs of others in order to feel better about their own.
Whatever, man. I'm not the one with a boner over it.

Nicene council.
Historical evidence of a secular nature coincides in a parallel fashion to the development of the early Christian movement; from the time of Christianity's status as a small, unusual sect of Judaism that was protected and accepted as a sect of an "ancient religion" to the time of Constantine's proclaimation of toleration, we can easily see historical patterns that support specific evidence for Christian history being accurate and true.
Anyone who'd like to talk further, PM me. I don't get involved in these dumb religious debates. I'm a scholar, teacher, and a practitioner of a system of faith, not a jerk.
Hm. The Council of Nicea didn't really show anything factually (neither of them, since there were two, seperated by about 200 years), but rather established "official" beliefs of Christianity, which was a very scattered and fragmented community at the time due to being somewhat of an underground and "problematic" sect of Judaism. Once Constantine made it legal, he shortly thereafter called a council and made efforts to "standardize" the religion. Basically, they decided (by consensus) what was "real" Christian belief, and what was heresy (this had never really been done before, and it'd been nearly 300 years since the sect had started to distinguish itself as more than "just another Jewish sect"). So, I think you probably should re-evaluate your opinion of the Council of Nicea and its accomplishments.
Now, what is certain is that Christianity became noted in the 1st century, and people began to write about it. However, we have no historical evidence of a particular person named Jesus running around Palestine in the 1st century. Had he caused the stir that one might expect that he would have, certainly there would have been notations by the Romans (i.e. "The local officials have now mentioned that a Jew in Palestine has managed to organize a great number of commoners, allegedly performing magic acts and gaining community support by many charitable and public acts. It would be wise of us to keep an eye on him.") or by local Jewish religious leaders (mentioning, for example, "While many prophets have surfaced during this time of hardship for our people, one in particular seems to stand out from the rest. Unfortunately, this one also -- by inference, cleverly enough -- claims to be the Messiah, and indeed, one with God himself. This may be a problem for us.")
But, we don't have any writings like that. Additionally, certain large events in the Gospels are missing from the historical record. A big example is the Census that is the reason Mary and Joseph end up in Bethlehem. The Romans were excellent record keepers, and yet, there is no record of a census happening at that time. Add in the fact that the birth of Jesus and his death were very obviously arranged to overlap and co-opt existing pagan holidays (winter solstice and spring equinox holidays, respectively) and we begin to see the problems. Even the often mentioned writings of Josephus (wrote Antiquities of the Jews), only mention that he'd heard of Jesus, and really nothing *empirical* beyond that. He doesn't say he met him, or discuss his exploits in detail, just that he'd heard of this guy. A "friend a friend of a friend" reference is hardly historical. And that's even putting aside the very debatable authenticity for that part of the text at all (it has... problems...)
So, while it is true that the Bible in its current form contains interesting views of many historical events (though viewed often through very biased eyes, as any historical account is apt to be), it also contains accounts of events that did not happen (i.e. there's no extra-biblical evidence for Jews being any sort of notable slave population in Egypt). It is interesting, but not authoritative. The Gospels even moreso, since they overlap and contradict, and were subject to the same political pressures as the rest of the Bible, only in Christianity they are the central focus, and so get more attention.
Don't get me wrong, if you want to follow Christianity, by all means, go for it. But if "faith" is the central tenet of the religion, I've never understood the need by some to try wedging supporting "evidence" as "proof" of the religion's validity. I was raised Catholic and then Evangelical in addition to being educated in Catholic theology, so I understand the allure, but let's make sure we don't create the impression that history as a whole supports the Christian Bible as factually true in all respects. It does not. There's a reason that Catholics are no longer into Biblical literalism, and every Catholic clergyman educated after Vatican II (and many before) are aware of the "issues" I've mentioned above. I don't mean to start a flame war, and it is not my intent to diminish your faith, but reason and faith should compliment each other, and reason requires the evidence be true.
ENOUGH WITH THE 1-UPS ON RELIGION & CHRISTIANITY ALREADY, FROM BOTH SIDES!
YOU'RE NOT GOING TO PROVE YOURSELF RIGHT OR CONVERT ANYONE OVER THE INTERNET!

No one's trying to convert anyone. Just defending a belief against an unprovoked attack, to wit: (and I use the term 'wit' generously)

...Freakin Christians... The last remnants of an ignorant society. Next thing youll say is the earth is flat...
No one provoked this comment. Why is it a problem to respond to it? Or is bigoted rudeness okay as long as you agree with it?

I'm not trying to convert or unconvert (is that even possible? even a WORD?) anyone. I think everyone needs to find their own best way to deal with reality.
I just have an issue with factually incorrect statements :thu:
It's like the xkcd comic (http://xkcd.com/386/):

Sadly, all too accurate for me

Freetime, it always amazes me when people make likenesses of Jesus in different ethnicities. I've seen Jesus as Asian, White, Black (like your pic), Redhead, Rastafarian, etc..I would understand, if we didn't know where He came from, or what His lineage was...But we do. Jesus wasn't Black any more than He was White...He was Jewish, at least in His physical form when He was here. Now, I know Barrack Obama would have a MAJOR issue with this, since God is Black and Africa was the "real" promised land and all (LOLLS!!!), but - in this case - he's wrong.
He could've been black. There we many africans in the mid-east at the time.
