I usually had my harmonicas laid out next to the drum set or in my harmonica belt, and would pick the appropriate one for each song.
One night my stage monitor did not work, the stage was very dark before starting a song, and halfway through the song the band leader turns to me and tells me "We're in the key of A"
I replied: "Yes, I know" but he gave me an odd look.
I double-checked and I had grabbed the wrong harmonica by mistake and was playing in a different key  :o

I did something like that with a tuner once...I didn't know that the little LED on a Boss TU12 meant "sharp" when I first got it and I spent most of a college class trying to figure out why everyone else was playing in the wrong key :facepalm::o

Good gosh, I can't even remember all the times I've started some song or the other in the wrong key. I'm especially prone to do this if I've played a song in another band in a different key than the current band.
I know that I played Santana's Evil Ways in Amin for a long time and then finally got it right and play it in Gmin now. But... I have started it in the wrong key since the switch.

my bass player was drunk at practice last night and i had to explain that "even if your tuner says its in tune... dude, you are a 1/2 step + sharp"
it was a tuner on a me-50... .turns out in drunk, you can see that it says "A" or "D" or whatever and assume you're in tune... he was actually playing Bflat and even that was sharp. i just had to say "turn the f'ing knob til the dots go away.!!"

I tuned my guitar while were jamming with a buddy, and must've leaned on it or something, cos when I retuned, all my notes seemed flat. I kept thinking that I was in tune and he wasn't, but it wasn't until I saw 447 instead of 440 did I realize how bad I failed.
Moral: Always double-check everything.
