"Brian Eno and I recently finished our first collaboration in about 30 years. For the most part, Brian did the music and I wrote some tunes, words and sang. It's familiar but completely new as well. We're pretty excited. In August the music will be available via this Web site, free for streaming and it will also be available for purchase as both a download and in physical formats. One of the songs will be available free of charge.

In September I will begin a tour, on which I will be playing music from the new album as well as music from our previous collaborations - 3 Talking Heads albums, Bush of Ghosts, etc."

For those too young or not paying attention at the time, Eno & Byrne's collaborations in the late seventies were groundbreaking and highly influential. They introduced the use of spoken word samples, ambient atmospherics, african and funk influences to the rock music listening masses.

Awesome, awesome news. Between this, the new Toadies album, the new Anthony Green album, the new Conor Oberst album and the new Stereolab album, August is shaping up to the best month this year. Thanks for the heads-up.

Well I'd say they "popularized" more than "introduced"...most of that had been done before, but not in a pop context. "Come Out to Show Them" was a famous electronic work using spoken word samples, and there were albums of electronic environments in the 60s. And few combined African and rock music as well as Ginger Baker's collaborations with Fela Kuti. This doesn't take away from the fact that what Eno/Byrne did was very cool and listenable, but I'd hesitate to think of it as incredibly original.
