View Full Version : Midi configuration with DP3 & Free Midi on Mac G4-need a hand...

I can't seem to make a midi thing happen with my setup.
I am running DP3 through a MOTU 1224, a MOTU Fastlane midi interface, and a Yamaha S80 as the synth controller. No other devices. Very simple. I originally had OMS installed as a result of buying the Midiman 2x2 first. After figuring out that all sorts of problems come along with the Midisport and MOTU, I took it back and got the Fastlane. So now, I'm in Free Midi, I canned OMS, and I can't get DP3 to do anything with this setup, either. No monitoring, no outgoing signal. No nada.
I am obviously doing something wrong in the configuration, but when I open up DP3, there aren't even any input or output options available. I would love a hand on getting this thing set up. I need the step by step, start to finish treatment, so if you could help me out, that'd be very cool.
Thanks,
Bill

It's hard to pinpoint what the problem is, you just have to troubleshoot. Check these things:
*Make sure that your MOTU 1224 driver is installed
*Connect the MIDI OUT of your S80 to the MIDI IN of the Fastlane and the MIDI OUT of the Fastlane to the MIDI IN of your S80. I believe there is also a button on the Fastlane which lets you select if you want to play your keyboard without the computer turned on (direct through) or if you want to use your computer sequencer
*Turn "local" off on your S80
*Go to the Apple Menu->Control Panels->Sound, and select your audio interface as the Sound In and Sound Out
*Run FreeMIDI and configure a new setup and have it search for devices
*Run DP3. Under Basics->Configure Audio System->Configure Hardware Driver, select your audio interface from the drop down menu and select OK
Let me know if that helps

Thanks for the help, there. I tried everything, but still no dice.
I think I've got everything configured alright. But for some reason, I cannot get any input options. In DP3, the first eight tracks list OUTPUTS as the IAC Driver. There are no options at all for inputs.
I'm seeing the LED on the MIDI in on my fastlane go on when I play keys, but nothing is apparently getting into the sequencer. I did the new configuration with OMS and FreeMidi, also.
Another new problem...Now, whenever I use the midi tracks at all, like, attempting to play one of the midi drum tracks included in DP3, my computer starts moving very slow and then completely locks up. This did not happen before I did this reconfiguration, so it's not my processor speed. Something is getting in the way of something else. This is driving me nuts. Maybe some funky extensions or i don't know. I'll no doubt have to reinstall something, but I don't know which direction to go here.
Thanks in advance for the help...
Bill

Hmmm. Sorry I couldn't be of much help. Try posting your problem on one of the MOTU forums at:
