I have to 2nd it, mainly because it's the only new album that I thought was worth a shit. I suppose Paul McCartney's live album can't count since it's all historic music, but those are the only 2 new releases I bought this year.

Either I'm getting jaded or I've completely lost touch with what's going on, ...or I've been locked in a closet all year...(kinda spent the year lost in a 70s retro haze) but the only album I really landed on this year was "Dirty Sexy Knights In Paris" by a band called Audiovent (not Audioslave). Two guys in the band are brothers to some guys in Incubus.

...not sure why I like it...cool heavy rock vibe I guess.

For 'guitar' records, I also love Howard Alden's 'In My Shining Hour' and enjoyed John Williams' 'The Magic Box'. Some great reissues this year too.

Numbers 2,3,5 & 7 are country records, hot pickin' and good songs. Gomez is a British rock band that is very tasty and diverse with soulful, rootsy vocals. Atreyu sound like Iron Maiden if they were half as old and twice as heavy. Jurassic 5 are hip-hop but more intelligent than your typical "bling blingers." The Desert Sessions is an ongoing project of Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age fame. It's basicall a revolving cast of musicians from bands like Soundgarden, Hole, Screaming Trees, Masters of Reality etc. The concept is to get all these musicians together who have never played together and write and record an album in a week to ten days. The latest installment is very bizzare and mind numbing. Superdrag are just a good old fashioned power pop band from Kentucky.
