The EZ-Slide was originally designed to help guitarists who had lost a finger, had arthritis, or had other problems that required a prosthetic device for playing. Basically, you hold it down on the fretboard with your left hand, and it fingers a major or minor chord, depending on how you hold it. But the inventor also calls it "training wheels" for guitartists who are just starting out. I'm editing a video on it now -- Craig

One of the RP-500's big deals is that there's a switch that cuts out the amp sim section. The idea is that if you're using the RP-500 in the studio, you can switch in the amp sim but if you're playing live, you can forget about the sim part and just treat it like a floor board set of effects. I've already edited a video on this - it should be live soon. -- Craig

Here's a picture of the "Great Wall" of NAMM. What they did was dedicate the 200 row of booths to tiny, low-priced booths where just about everyone could afford to strut their stuff. If you're familiar with Winter NAMM, this was kind of the Nashville equivalent of Hall E.*And like Hall E, this is where you can find all kinds of cool little toys...as you'll see in some of the videos :) -- Craig

Nope, it's not a digital multitrack recorder, it's a DAW control surface. No audio goes in or out of it. It's from SmartAV (http://www.smartav.net/), the people who made that large console format controller with the bowed strip across the back.

I had posted these in the effects forum this morning, and Jon asked me to post them over here too, so here they are....
First up is someone who used to post here, I think his name is Brian, the IndyGuitarist.com guy. He had a bit of a crowd at his booth both times I went past so I was only able to get him with his back turned, but you can see a bit of his stuff between him and the guy who he is demoing the stuff for:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v181/JonHiller/Summer%20NAMM%202008/nashvillenamm2008011.jpg
Next up, the Belcat pedal booth. I wanted to go back and check these guys out, I have never seen their pedals, but they make bridge pickups for acoustic guitars that I have seen which have been pretty good. Their pedals looked very well made, and those little things that are stacked in the background on the left side and lit up are some sort of miniature guitar tuners. They also had a very heavy-duty looking pedal tuner which you can sort of see in the right background.

Some Walden guitars. These photos didn't come out quite as well as I'd hoped, I kept getting bumped while I was trying to take them, and there were quite a few people in and out of the display too, which, while good for Walden's business, isn't so great for taking pictures:lol:

Samick's Greg Bennett limited edition 50th anniversary Royale. I got to spend some time at this booth because I had to wait a few minutes for my rep, so I got to take this one down and play with it. This is a limited run model with a custom neck inlay and it comes with a custom case, too.

I wanted to take a little more time at the Ibanez booth even though I'm not a dealer for them, just because they had a LOT of really beautiful instruments on display, but between the crowd at their booth and my not having much time, I didn't get to go back. Note that there are two different versions of the guitar, one that's more expensive with a sculpted body and one that's just painted. Both looked very cool, though.

Next, the Kustom Double Kross amp. Unfortunately this one was not a working model, so I didn't get to hear it. There has been a lot of buzz over this amp, as Kustom has hired amp designer James Brown (he designed the original 5150 amps, the Peavey Classic series, I think the Triple X series and JSX amps as well) away from Peavey and this is one of his designs. 4 channels (well, actually, 3 channels and a boost), and supposed to be able to create a BUNCH of different tones.

And lastly, this guitar was a booth or two over from the IndyGuitarist booth, and I just thought it looked very cool:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v181/JonHiller/Summer%20NAMM%202008/nashvillenamm2008075.jpg
Overall, I thought it was a pretty cool show, not as crowded as others I have been to, either in the number of attendees or in the number of vendor displays, but we got some business done (picked up Kustom, BC Rich, Rockfield Pickups, and did a scheduled order with Samick/Greg Bennett), and got to play with some new stuff. I didn't see many "famous" people at this show, but that's not really what the show is for.
One other quick note, I got to spend about 15 minutes in the Behringer/Bugera Amps booth. I thought the Bugera stuff was pretty cool for the money. There are definitely better sounding amps, but the Bugera stuff seems to be the real deal, for those who are curious about them.

I found some more photos.... This first one is a new guitar pick that's made of wheat and is supposedly biodegradable. I have spent a little time with it and other than it being a touch thinner than I normally use, I would rate this product an "A". I figured it would tear up pretty easily but so far it hasn't done so. James (the guitar teacher from my shop who went to NAMM with me) got a heavy Wheatware pick and it's very cool as well. Very low pick noise with either the light or heavy, and they seem tough as nails considering they are a wheat derived product. The company is called "wheatware" and can be found at www.wheatware.com.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v181/JonHiller/Summer%20NAMM%202008/summernamm2008167.jpg
Next is another new pick that I have grown fond of, it's very articulate and seems to be good quality material. We got a couple of these and have abused them pretty hard with good results. The company is called "Rick Rock".

Next up, the "V Pick", which is made so that it's the same tip shape no matter how you pick it up. Handy if your picks have a tendency to slip a bit while you're holding them:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v181/JonHiller/Summer%20NAMM%202008/summernamm2008172.jpg
There were also giant picks. This big pick was from Pickworld.com, and the Wheatware pick next to it is a standard 351-size pick, just for comparison.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v181/JonHiller/Summer%20NAMM%202008/summernamm2008174.jpg
And then there were the picks that you can get that are imprinted with someone's fingerprints.... kinda strange, but I think the idea is that if they're imprinted, they won't be as easy to drop or to move around in your hands.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v181/JonHiller/Summer%20NAMM%202008/summernamm2008175.jpg
This was a company that I wanted to go back and take a couple pictures at their booth but I didn't have time, and the two times that I did walk by them I couldn't get a shot because of the crowd, as their booth was in the walkway area on the 2nd floor. They make a tray that will sit on top of your amp to hold stuff. This is probably a must-be item for those who have a habit of setting a drink on top of their amp, lol. You can find them at www.amptoppers.com.

No Pics from ESP, BC rich, Jackson, Rico or PRS?
I posted a few photos of BC Rich a few pages back. Jackson I didn't have time to go in and take photos, as I was pressed for time, the Charvel guitars were outside the Fender/Gretsch/Jackson/Charvel room in the hallway so I walked past them. I did not see Rico guitars there. PRS was there but I think they may have been in a room, I'm not sure. I know that I didn't stop at their booth, again a matter of not having enough time. I KNOW PRS was there, though, as I saw Paul at a couple different times when I walked the main floor.
BC Rich didn't have a real large booth at this show, and they shared it with Traben and Michael Kelly, who are both owned by the same parent company as BC Rich (Hanser Music). Also, my rep told me that something happened to their display, and they just put together what they could get their hands on at the last minute. I don't remember if he said their display got broken or lost by the airline, but I'm pretty sure it was one or the other. That may be part of the reason they had a smaller display as well, seeing as they didn't have their actual display fixtures on hand.

I think a lot of people didn't expect much this year because apparently the crowds were really, really thin last year at Summer NAMM in Texas. I had one person who works for a company I deal with tell me that they talked to more people on Friday alone this year than they did ALL weekend last year, so attendance was apparently up. But I'm sure that lower expectations probably played a small part, as did one other thing: The INFOCOMM trade show was the same week as summer NAMM, and it was in Vegas, so a lot of companies had already made plans to be in Vegas and didn't have resources and/or time to make summer NAMM as a result. So there were several things in play, but apparently it was a better show in a lot of ways than last summer's show.

Dang! I meant to look these guys up at the show. My actual given name is Wheat Williams III, and my family has been using the Wheat name since my grandfather was born in the 1890s. I should be able to get some sort of product endorsement out of this (or maybe just a free pick...).
I understand they make drumsticks too.

Hey Rick! Great photos. If the magazine thing doesn't pan out, you could always have a career as a photographer :)

There's a video featuring her in the Summer NAMM 2008 coverage in the Theater. Look for the Trega guitars video.

Any special reason you failed to mention Thom was humping for a really neat travel guitar company, Voyage-Air? Their acoustic guitar and electric guitar prototype fold at the neck/body joint. The electric sounded fantastic. (I couldn't really hear myself on the acoustic, but if Thom likes it... ;) )
