Feeding a lot, you will want Bunn commercial coffee maker. Steel construction, and FAST, we get a pot in under a minute with it, also has a top warmer so you can have a pot of hot water for the tea/decaf drinkers.
At home I have a BrewStation. The coffee is better with this (I like Millstone at home) coffee stays in a resevoir in top till you draw a cup, no burnt taste from sitting on the burner plate all day. Also consider any of the name brands with thermal carafe for the same reason.
You can get nice programmable home machine for $50. but don't spend a lot less than that. Cuisinart you are paying for the name. Braun makes a nice one that takes cone filters--more concentrated brew, and you can use less grounds, saves money if you like premiun brands.
Millstone, Seattles Best, White Castle for late nites. Enjoy !

I have often wondered about those fabulous coffee machines that you see everywhere in continental European cafes. I am told that they are hugely expensive; they do provide a damn good espresso. The people who operate them grind the coffee beans before your very eyes and then they put them in a little cup affair which is itself screwed into the main body of the machine. A few minutes later you are presented with a tiny cup of fragrant frothy espresso. I wants me one of them.

Fegeddaboudit. I googled some machines and a cheap one was €2,500. There was even an article about a machine costing $11,000. Why? How in the name of the Seven Snot-Nosed Subaru Drivers Of Siberia can a machine that boils water and pours it over coffee beans cost that kind of money? Great jumping Jehesophat but I've spent less than that on cars. Ridiculous.
