I have put my new studio computer in (To replace my old workhorse) The replacement computer is a Dell P4 with 2gig of DDR and an EMU 0404 PCI soundcard- everything is working just ok- with the exception of when I run the recording software the machine is very sluggish and freezes and then I get the B.S.O.D (Blue Screen Of Death) with the ialmrnt5 error! I know this is because I am using the onboard video (Intel 82865G) and I believe this is what is causing the computer to run sluggish and locking up. Do you have any recommendations for a good (Hopefully inexpensive) PCI video Card?

This (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131082) is probably the most capable PCI graphics card that you'll find.

Thanks Hacked! Have you tried this card out? Just curious to see how well it works- I can't argue with the price!

I've not, but based on what I've read about the series, it should be fine for your needs if you're not doing any gaming.

No gaming- This computer is strictly used for recording and that is all (granted I will playback the music and do a half attempt to mix it) but I have a seperate computer for mastering. What really suprised me is how sluggish and demanding it is on the onboard video - it must kill the CPU and DDR!
Thanks so much for your recommendation Hacked!:thu:

GUITKRAZY, you may just need to update the onboard video card drivers, as the ialmrnt5 error (googling it a little) looks like a driver error. If you haven't tried updating the to latest video drivers, I would try that first.
Also, are you sure you don't have an AGP slot, as older mother boards usually have them (before PCI-express).
Very old PCs/mobos used only PCI for video cards. (but that was back in like in like 1996).

the Intel 82865G should come with an AGP slot, if so I have a cheap AGP I could sell you..

Why do you "know" this is because of the on-board video? It's far more likely to be your EMU 0404 causing the BSODs.EMU cards have a long history of flaky behavior.
Try yanking it out and see if you're still getting BSODs.
