I am looking to buy a digital audio interface for my PC. The two that I am primarily looking at are the Quattro and the Duo by M-Audio. Could anyone give me some input regarding the strengths and weaknesses of each? Is there another interface of comparable price that I should look at? Thanks.

Just got the Duo- the key difference between it and the Quattro is that the Duo gives you two xlr mic inputs (or two 1/4 inch inputs), while the Quattro gives 4 1/4 inch inputs (with the ability to play back four tracks at a time). I picked the Duo because I want to record a quick vocal or guitar track without getting my mixing board involved. I also am suspicious of trying to do four tracks of audio over USB- that's pretty ambitious in my view.

If you are recording primarily one or two tracks at a time and want to plug a mic into the computer easily, the Duo is a good solution.

If you want to record and play back several tracks at once, I would suggest routes other than the Quattro, such as the MOTU 828, or a standalone digital multitrack recorder (that's what I did) that then can export tracks into the computer for mixing and editing.

Hope this helps,
