On Monday the 10th, I'm taking off for the Frankfurt Musik Messe. HC does things a little differently for Messe: I'll be the only videographer, and it's all done without a safety net :) If I can't find a good internet connection, I'm toast...like last year, where I'd be up until 7 AM editing/uploading videos, and rolling into the show a couple hours later to start the process all over again. Jet lag? What jet lag? At Frankfurt, my body clock turns asynchronous...
This time I'm trying to line up some associates to do the show with me as presenters, interviewees, and general hell-raisers. Hopefully it'll all work! It should be an interesting show, as always, and I promise to try my best to get some footage of the wild after-show parties.
See you at the Messe...either in-person, or virtually!

Damn, I wish I could do all of that too, but I'm only going 1 day...
Too bad amateur webmasters don't get those opportunities (invitations, interviews,...), even if their site is as big as mine :D
But maybe I see you so I can finally ask about the effects you designed, as a PM didn't work :cop:

Gee, you should have asked me. But you'd at least have to pay my expenses. ;)
I've never been to a European show. I hear they're . . . different.

Hi Mike,
The shows themselves are different but not THAT different.
If you want "different" we should talk Frankfurt City. Most international visitors come by plane. As public transport is included in the Messe ticket you easily take the train to the City (20 minutes max) and you arrive at the central station. The easiest way is to get a hotel close to the station to save you leg work and time. Train goes from the station to the Messe's own station (5 min max) so staying close to the station makes sense logistically.
Here's where the "different" starts. The area around the station is a traditional red light district so you will be confronted with less than the moral majority standard code of conduct if you get my drift.
This year I wanted to stay close to the station on logistical grounds and found a 3 star hotel. The hotel was squeezed in between to strip clubs with another on the other side of the street. On the other side was a stairwell whorehose (I kid you not).
Every evening when getting to and from the hotel I was accosted by men and women trying to lure me into their places of business. Some of them can be really obnoxiously pushy. When I had successfully evaded them and arrived in my hotel room I realized the guy who was trying to get customers into the club on the other side of the street used a small but effective PA to get his message across. He kept that up untill the small hours and I had a hard time sleeping.
All in all I enjoy being at the Messe but I definitely do not enjoy the city.
Cheers,
Mats N
