The "wow" as in "wow and flutter" was atrocious on those damn things. And track changes in the middle of a song! WTF?

My first 8 track though was Deep Purple - Machine Head! Played that one to death. Child in Time was cut right in half...

when i was in high school, one of the coaches had a little triumph tr-6 with a phonograph that played 45's... i can recall him zippin' around with the top down and "blue moon" blaring from the thing... i wonder if they had some anti skip technology?

Yeah, it was called "a nickel taped to the tonearm".;)

Seriously, all they had was some sort of spring assembly to suspend the turntable. Can't imagine it working very well with a rock-hard TR suspension.

When I was in high school, I rigged up an RCA 45 changer tapped into the car radio....only worked when I was parked, though.

We can no longer utilize our 8 tracks cause we can't find those little books of paper matches anymore to wedge in there.
Darn anti smoking Natzis messing w/our technology.

8-tracks are awesome. They allow you to listen to two tracks at once. You can listen to a whole album in half the time it would normally take with other media types.

I hated 8 track tape technology. The frequency response was limited to approx. 10KHZ and ever so often the stupid thing would grab the tape and eat it up by pulling it out of it's holder and either tearing it to pieces or wadding it up into a big mess rendering it useless.
When cassette came out with it's higher frequency response and smaller package, I thought I was in tonal heaven comparatively.

I remember some dumb reasoning held by some people in the 70s.

"8-tracks are better than cassettes because they are bigger".

Well tape (reel) is better sound quality than CD digital. Not 8 track tape however.
