I hear it's disappointing with none of the charm of the play, but thought I'd get some opinions here about whether it's worth my time or not.

I'm hesitant to see the movie, basically because I can't see it outshining the George Hearn/Angela Lansbury production, of which I'm a huge fan. Hearn 'made' the character for me and, though I love Depp, I don't know if he has the ability to portray the rage that's inherent in the character of Sweeney. Hearn fairly vibrates with contained rage throughout the production. Also, Lansbury is wonderfully mad, so beautifully insane as Mrs. Lovett...

That's what makes me hesitate to pay large sums to see this movie in the theater - waiting for cable or DVD is another story.

in my opinion, it was disappointing and had none of the charm of the play :o the only highlight was Helena Bonham Carter (as always)

if you really wanna see it, just watch it online. it's not worth spending your money on.

Okay- I've never seen the play, but I thought the movie was great. It's the only musical I've ever been able to sit through and it kept me entertained and interested the whole time. I'm surprised it hasn't gotten more support here.

SOUTH PARK - bigger, longer, uncut - enough said

Anyway, I'd like to see Sweeney Todd... but first I'd like to hear more reviews of it
