Hey guys I'm looking for a cheap digital camera. I just need something to take pics of gear I'm selling and random get togethers and stuff. Something I could take to parties and not worry about it getting stolen. If there are some that do little videos that would be cool too, I'm really not up to date on this type of stuff. Thanks.

Bump, cause I need one too.

Used to have a Kodak CX7300 (or something like that) that my ex stole. Something in that price range would be nice.

One of my kids has a Pentax optio something. Don't remember the model for sure, M50 I think. That takes good pictures and has some nice features and so far has been completely reliable. It was around $150. My other daughter has a Casio Exelim. It's broken down twice in less than a year and getting Casio to honor the warranty is always a battle. I'd never buy another Casio.

Wow. I've had two. Both had two catastrophic failures in a year. One I just had fixed under warranty, after much hassling. The other I just threw out because I got sick of dealing with them. Either you got lucky or I got unlucky.

i think the main problem is the lens mechanism can burn out if it e.g. gets turned on in a bag and tries to extend. i have a hardshell case for mine :idk:

How much you willing to spend?

I paid about $90 for my factory refurb'd Kodak back in 2005. I'd be willing to spend up to $125 or so now.

Fujifilm Finepix. I got given one and its a great point-and-shoot camera for the purpose. Mines a Z1 but from what I hear the whole range is great value. came with a desk dock and a rechargable Lithium ion battery with great life.

I just bought a Fuji Z20. It's very slim, which I like, but it uses a proprietary battery, which I bought an extra of, and that was $35.00 (ouch). It can take an XD or an SD card, which is nice because I have a bigger Fuji that uses XD cards which will allow me to have extra cards without paying anything extra out of pocket. Also, this camera's lens mechanism is all internal, so there is no need to worry about the lens mechanism getting damaged trying to open up. Also, the on/off switch is a slide cover over the lens instead of a button, so there will be no accidentally turning it on. 10 megapixels, 3X optical zoom, and a very good macro function, much better than any other camera I tried in it's price range except for the Nikon S210 which seemed about equal. I paid $159.00 for it.

My wife bought a Fuji S5700 yesterday and it looks it be a great camera for the price. It's a superzoom "bridge" camera so it won't fit into your suit pocket but it has a lot of features you won't find on a compact of the same price.

7M pixels, 10X optical zoom, 1cm supermacro, SD or XD cards and standard AA batteries.

Edit: It's called an S700 in the US http://www.amazon.com/Fujifilm-Finepix-Digital-Camera-Optical/dp/B000NOUP0S

Well you can go for Cannon ... or Sony Cybershot. Cost around $150 and you will have 5 to 7 Mega pixel which is quite descent if you want to take only family photographs.

But buy new one ...

I would prefer to go for either canon or sony as both have international market and you can get the service anywhere in the world.

Do not think about some few bucks.

Do cameras need servicing these days?
Unless you are buying an SLR they are pretty much disposable.

After seeing your requirements and basic needs, I just have two brands in my head one is Soy Cybershot and other one is Canon. I am using Sony Cybershot and my elder brother is using Canon. So far we never had complain.

One thing about electronic thing - Always handled by one person only and it will last longer.
