View Full Version : My weekly movie review (or not)... Fantastic Four [both], National Tresure [both].

OK.

Fantastic Four (first one):

The movie is built around the Marvel comic characters, I had never read that stuff, but I know that this movie was closer to crap than to something good. [yeah, I throw these old style euphemisms around like I'm Shakespeare]. The scenario is weak, sometimes you ask yourself if the main character, Reed, could really be a weirdo dork scientist and at the same time be so stupid... The only thing I liked was Victor Von Doom's (Julian McMahon) transformation and the fight in the end.

I also liked the joke in the end: the closing scene is a Russian cargo ship, it's name is "Головка пальца ноги", which translated from Russian means "Toe head"... Mmkay. :D [or if you prefer "Head of a toe"]

So I guess this one has a 3/10, don't watch it unless you want to see that Jessyca Alba, or whatever that blonde's name is and really like people flying around with flames and shit. [I guess this one is pretty well made when it comes to special effects]

Fantastic Four - Rise of the Silver Surfer:

Hopefully scenarists came up with something more original. There's some weird meteorit [or not] shit going on around Earth etc. Fantastic four, with the help of evil Von Doom [who just wants to gain more power with his little manipulations] do all the cool stuff to save the planet [or almost].

Really, if you haven't watched the first one OR after watching the first one are not interested in the rest of the story - don't bother.

4/10, barely more interesting than the first one, same old crap.

National Treasure

Oh, yeah, the Indiana Jones wannabe Benjamin Gates is from a family of treasure hunters, or more precisely, "tradition keepers". Benjamin [Nicolas Cage] has to find a treasure, the biggest and most important tresure ever, hidden by masons, somewhere. [and in order to do this he must steal the declaration of independance] Of course he's hunted by some guy who wants the same thing.

There's much techie stuff going on and cool character interactions, the story is not THAT interesting, but the movie is entertaining. 6/10

National Treasure - Book of Secrets

Once again Benjamin Gates has to save some crap 'honor' of his family . [and in order to do this he will do some other nasty thing I won't tell ya]. And he succeeds but than there's this other bad guy wanting to kick his ass... Actually not really kick his ass but to be the one to discover the secret tresure and to have his name stuck in some history book.

Worse than the first one, but there are still some cool, funny scenes. 5/10

Your reviews are GREAT!!! They tell me what I need to know, and make me smile at the same time :)

I also thought the first Fantastic Four movie was pretty lame (saw it on a plane). I thought one really weak element was how the Hulk guy was supposed to have this fantastic relationship with his wife, who dropped him like a flaming meteor the minute he became Hulk Dude. You think she would have at least given him some level of support, given how tight they were supposed to me.

I'll definintely avoid the second one. Thanks for saving me two hours of my life.

They said Silver Surfer would redeem the crappiness of the first F4.

They lied.

I want my dignity back.

Wow.
On a serious note National Treasure 2 was a very good film...
it incorporates historical elements with action and a touch a comedy...

I'm sorry but Frenchy's review of National Treasure 2 totally sucked. I want my 2 minutes back reading that chicken scratch....
Perhaps if it had been called International Garbage he may have liked it more?

It starts out with a scene of the Lincoln assassination, and through the means of a diary, the killer had contained in it a cypher only a descendant of the Gates family could decipher. Then we get to a present day lecture on the matter by Benjamin Gates (Nicholas Cage) and his father (Jon Voight) discussing the very same page torn from John Wilkes Booth's diary.

Ed harris' character stands up to challenge the Gates family by showing the actual page, that had been missing since the diary had been recovered...Linking Thomas Gates as a co-conspirator in the assassination of President Lincoln. I don't know about you but this makes for an excellent sequel.
