I've been told that you haven't lived until you've heard a McIntosh system.

My dear lord I am so sorry. Someone must've hacked into my account again. I'm deeply sorry if it offended you. Have a merry Xmas, and God bless you.

With equally pricey speakers a McIntosh amplifier will indeed breath incredible realism and detail into the room that less expensive systems couldn't touch. If that's important to you.

That said there are many equally great sounding equipment manufacturers at that price point.

I have had the pleasure of being demo'd an $83,000 McIntosh A/V Theater system. Projector alone was $23k I think. Before that I was demo'd a Klipsch THX Ultra 2 system that cost about $20 for the whole A/V setup, and I was floored. Then came the McIntosh. There is a reason it costs so much :). Level of clarity and presence is really unmatched. I went home to my 60" Sony SXRD and Denon 4306 and cried a little :(.

You could buy a PC with the same specs as a mac or at least half the price. So that being said, no. However, I prefer Macs to PC's. They're safer, and they look nicer.

Two different companies my friend. McIntosh vs MacIntosh. MacIntosh is the PC rival company, McIntosh makes very high-end audio equipment.

Actually, it's worth it if money is no object. If you actually live on a budget like most people, then no, stay far away from it. It's way past the point of diminishing returns.

One can do better for much less. Arcam, for instance.

Well, sort of. Apple is the rival PC company: they make Macintosh computers among other things. ;)

Mcintosh audio is definitely worth the money, if ya got it. (love those blue meters!!) It exists in the realm of exotics though. Krell, Bryston and Mcintosh are all birds of a feather, if you can afford them, choosing between them is easy,

To me it is like choosing between supercars, Ferarri, lambroghini, bugatti, Viper whatever.
