Hmmm. Beowulf.
Saw it last week and thought that it was brilliant. However, when I left I felt that there was something missing. And I'm still not sure what. I was dazzled by the animation, the pores in the skin, the technical brilliance.
Did they do too much pointing things out of the screen just to show off? Was that it?
Ray Winstone? Was that it? Was Beowulf from the east end of London?
I'm feeling a bit deflated by the experience now. Cant wait for The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D.

i have yet to see it in 3d, however i was very impressed with beowulf. considering it's the oldest text found, that was written in what would eventually become modern english.
i was interested to find, that even though it is written in english, it is based on a story in Scandinavia (denmark).
i like how they point out how the christ figure ruined things for a lot of people.

I teach two periods of British Lit at my high school. I do Beowulf, but I stick mainly to a modern translation of the original work. I wonder if Angelina Jolie as Grendel's Mom would perk up my students' interest...:D
