My G4 Powerbook is 3 and 1/2 years old.

Apple has an automated software update feature( it scans your machine for older versions of Apple app's and suggests you d/l a new version)

Long story short, my mac couldn't take any further upgrades. At the end of my service warranty, 6 months ago, the Apple service dude suggested a fresh install. He said I had a corrupt file ' some where' which prevented the version upgrade process in completing its cycle.

A fresh OSX install would involve backing up all my apps and files and reinstall them afterwards. Ughh

I did that yesterday morning. 1000 songs, 500 photos, Office, documents etc went to my Lacie FW external drive. Took 30 minutes. Not so bad.

I went to my local Apple store (made an appointment in advance) with my G4. The dude and I discussed the G4 problem. Fresh OSX, 10.4.1 install was the solution. Entire visit took 40 minutes.

No charge

My G4 now runs fast, all apps are smooth as silk.

Pretty good for a 3 and 1/2 year old computer

apple stores are 100% customer service stores... Never had a bad expierence at one, the best part about it you get helped the same if you are dressed like a bum or in a brand new armoni suit.
