I think so, because the scope of the cinematrography is HUGE.
Then again, I live in Texas and spend quite a bit of time backpacking in arid west Texas.

I saw it last night.
I LOVED it.
Great story, great villain, 9/10 IMO.

It was an excellent movie. Be aware, however, that it has the opposite of a happy ending. Of course, you probably don't go see a movie about an evil hitman expecting to see a happy ending.
Great overall conceptualization of the hitperson. Good guys? There are about 6 of them, and maybe one lives.
No reason you should have to see it on a big screen though.

I just finished the book and it was incredible....I can't wait to see the film....anything by Cormac McCarthy is worth a read.
It features Kevin McHale on a killing rampage.

the movie was great...definately not for everyone...some people seemed to be frustrated by the ending...I was very pleased with it....very real.
Still trying to figger out why Woody Harrelson was in the movie.:confused:talk about miscast...other than that, it was awesome.:thu:

I loves me some Cohen Brothers movies (faves are Fargo, Raising Arizona, Lebowski...).
But I was quite disappointed in NCFOM. The plot was far simpler and more linear than other Cohen Bros movies. There wasn't much in the way of intricasies, less cool dialog than I'm used to...
It was a good, not great movie, and certainly a seat-edger, but it was nowhere near as good as all the hype I'd come to have heard.

I saw it in the cinema the other day with my brother , i enjoyed it .

It was different to the other Cohen brothers movies I've seen ( maybe all of them heh ) , I got a feeling it was paced a little more slowly than their other ones . Maybe they were trying to infuse the feeling of the open texas countryside & local atmosphere into the ambience of the movie .
Then again, I live in Texas and spend quite a bit of time backpacking in arid west Texas.
I've never actually been to texas , maybe MRknobs can clarify this .

Graphic, bloody and violent. I loved it. One thing though, with all the shootin' going on how come nobody came out and said 'Hey what's going on here?' Those two fellas had the town to themselves.

i saw it on opening night and the audience was composed mostly of senior citizens. I guess they thought the movie was about old people, kind of like 'Cocoon'? :idk:

I checked it out tonight and thought it was very interesting and enjoyed it.
I'm still trying to figure out why, he just didn't buy a car and take off.
It was captivating...the theater was silent....

I just saw it last night. I thought the ending needed 15-30 more minutes. I was trying to figure out if/when Llewelyn got killed.
Another part I didn't really understand was the car crash at the end. I guess Chigurh couldn't escape destiny either.
I loved how money was the catalyst that people used to control their destiny.
I do believe that it is one of the most thought provoking movies I've seen in recent years. I tempted to read the book.

As I see it, that was the central theme to the whole story. Events (death/endings) are not waiting for us to get ready. They've got a life of their own.

Spoiler:
I'm reading this blog about the differences in the movie from the book. Fascinating. Lots of significant things changed. In the book Chigurh returns the money to the original owner instead of killing everyone. And Carla Jean actually chooses the coin flip and loses. I wonder why people say that the movie was faithful to the book.

I wonder why people say that the movie was faithful to the book. It's pretty spot on with the book I think. Some of the dialogue was torn straight out of the pages! I've seen the movie and read the book but of course theres gonna be changes. In the book Chigurh still kills everyone.... They just cut out the part where he returns the money. They should have included it though because it does help explain his part in the story.
The only other changes I can think of off the top of my head is the 16 year old hitch-hiker he picks up. In the movie she's just some chick infront of the hotel that invites Lewellen in for beer. Plus other small changes like the dog that chases him into the river earlier and stuff like that.
Mainly I think they just cut parts out from the book to make the movie. No it's not a carbon copy but what movie is?
It's the most faithful re-creation I've seen...

Best Western I've seen since "The Wild Bunch".
I suspect it will be seen as a masterpiece in decades to come.
I loved the ending. I was stunned. And I loved the dialogue and
the accents.
I just read Blood Meridian and it ends somewhat the same. The Judge kills The Kid--but the scene is left out.
Not sure if I've figured out why McCarthy chooses to do this.

Not sure if I've figured out why McCarthy chooses to do this.Well my take on it in No Country is that the book simply was not about Lewellen. Instead I think it was about the sheriff burning out watching all this. He tried to do something but he was simply too late and missed it. I guess McCarthy tried to put it into his perspective that way...

didn't enjoy this film.
i found the pace of it terribly monotonous and the plot dreary.
i was quite looking forward to the cinematography but the lack of dynamism detracted even from that.
to me it ended up as a dull terminator movie.
wasted opportunity.

great film imo, well deserved oscars all around too - VERY memorable baddie and tons of tension and suspense to spare for the first hour or more - almost has an 'anti-ending' to it all
in terms of screen adaptations of books, THE most faithful one I've ever seen was probably silence of the lambs - some of the subtle details were tweaked a little (e.g. there's more about starling's boss in the book) but the rest was pretty tight

We saw "No Country" Fri night.
Funny:
We really liked it. Very funny---to us. We saw the movie in a full theatre, and we were the only ones laughing. It was weird, like we were the only ones to get the humor. Maybe this style of humor's not for everyone, but we loved it.
No music:
One of the earlier posts mentioned lack of music. The movie had NO UNDERSCORE. Very unusual. Added to the suspense.
Bad ending:
We were very disappointed in the ending. Actually, the movie didn't have an ending, it just quit--virtually in mid-sentence. No resolution, no foreshadowing to what could be next, no nothing. It was like the projector broke. Other than this, great movie.

The book and movie end the same way...so I guess you can blame the author. The dreams have significant meaning though...I just need to watch it again. Great movie overall though.

Watched this last night. As I was telling a friend, it was like having fantastic sex with an amazing partner and just when you're approaching the finale...she stops and leaves.
I loved the first 90 minutes. LOVED IT! Anton was quiet most of the time, but when he opened his mouth he had the best lines.
Then the last half hour hit, weird shifts in focus...what the hell happened, what's going on? Hated it...IMO, the last act was so bad that it actually ruined my experience watching the film.
But I really loved it up until that point...so... :)

just finished it, thought it was awesome but the ending was just too meh... I had heard that 90% of the people who saw it, bitched about the ending so I wasnt expecting much, but shit, it should have ended with chigurh walking away. not the worthless sheriff talking about a dream... flip those scenes even and it would have been better. I would have rather seen every amicable character slaughtered, and have chigurh skip away into the sunset, but this was just a piss poor attempt and trying to be different for the sake of being different for an ending.

I finally got around to seeing it. I really liked it. Too many times you get a Hollywood ending where the good guy wins and the bad guy gets it. Very solid movie IMO.

The ending stayed true to the book...and if you dig deep into what the dreams meant, you'll probably understand the movie better.

I've never read the book but I noticed that Chigurh checked his shoes after he killed the girl at the end of the movie. Did he use the air gun on her?

I think it's No Country is a solid film. But Josh Brolin definitely did a better job of acting than Javier Bardem. He played a crooked cop in American Gangster and was COMPLETELY different.

that was implied...he always tries to keep his boots clean of blood

I liked the way the visuals told the story. You could understand the movie very well with the sound off--Good old fashioned movie making.
Coens did a good job with Tommy Lee Jones. he's a powerful actor if you can keep him from chewing the scenery.
Chigurth was 'almost' a terminator style characture. They went right to the line, there.

I liked the way they let the pictures tell the story. Good old fashioned movie making. And terrific diaglogue to go along with it.
Tommy Lee Jones is a powerful actor if you can get him to not chew the scenery, as the Coens did here.
Anton was 'almost' a terminator type figure. They went right to the edge there.
Yes, it is a classic I think.

finally got to see this movie last night. But I need/want to watch it again. I thought it was great though. The non-existence of music was a genius idea. I didn't even realize that until I read this thread haha...it just "adds" so much more to the atmosphere. There's just some simple questions though,
**spoiler**
Lewelyn got killed at the motel right? When the other sheriff told Tommy Lee Jones, "Sorry about your boy" or something, he meant Lewelyn or his partner? Because his partner never makes an appearance after that. I'm thinking more than likely Lewelyn since the more important character.
