yes...I'll admit the Fleming novels blow away the movies....but then I have to use my imagination in the books instead of letting the movie 'show' me how the scene plays out.....and that makes my brain work...and when my brain works....well.....

TIP your making my brain angry!

Not always ... movies made from John Grisham novels are always better than the books. Grisham just doesn't know how to end a compelling story; it always just stops in a dull thud. In the movies, you have to have a big ending, and the screenwriters know how to make them happen.

Movies are a different medium though ... it's not always fair to say a book is better. It's a completely different experience.

agree totally

The current crop of movies coming out on DVD is mediocre at best

Fo example, I rented Oceans 13. I thought, with Clooney, Pitt, this would be good entertainment

Wrong

I borrow books from our very good local library. Much more enjoyable and better for the mind

True, you can make a sort of shitty movie (the firm) out of a really shitty book (the firm).

99.9% of the time the book is better.

I think there are a few exceptions where the movie is better. The Shining is a good example.

Hmmmm....

That's all I can think of now.

No Country For Old Men is on par with the excellent Cormac McCarthy book.

Even tho' the ending put a different spin on the whole story, I still thought "Being There" was well adapted.
