I used to have one. It cost roughly the equivalent of two custom shop Paul Reed Smiths.

I looked at the Cervenys when I bought my tuba last summer and ended up with an Allora. It's a house brand made for WWBW but is almost identical to the Miraphone 186. Sat down with the Allora and the Miraphone that I'd been using and played with both for a couple of hours and there wasn't a lot of difference except the price. The Allora was less than half the cost of the Miraphone. Now if I'd had the money I'd have bought one of the fully compensating Bessons, but money was tight and I needed a horn. Next comes the double trigger bass bone or the Besson Prestige euphonium depending on which comes along at a better deal first.

I helped out at a middle school clinic once, and my band teacher was supposed to bring my Cerveny over to the school where the clinic was taking place.
Not only did she forget to bring it, but she made me play this godawful 4-rotor St. Petersburg that I couldn't tune and sounded like a kazoo (compared to my horn), not to mention the rotors hadn't been lubricated in probably three months.
I tried to get her to let me use the school's Yamaha three valve models, but she got all pissed at me and made me use the St. P.

I've played an Allora trumpet, modeled after a Bach Strad. Played and sounded like a Strad.
Which is a sound I'm trying to get away from, but it was definately nice as the Strads I've played.

I ran into the guy who bought my tuba after I graduated from HS at the store last night. My brother would come home and tell me horror stories about him saying, "Look how soft this metal is," and then demonstrating by squeezing dents into it.

That's one of the other things I really like about my Allora vs. the Miraphone, nice thick heavy metal that doesn't dent very easily. I did however buy it as a B-stock instrument that already had one minor dent in it. I was glad that the first dent was done so that I could relax and not have to worry about when I was going to put the first dent or scratch into the shiny new surfaces.:D

I think I had my new Cerveny all of a month before I accidentally banged it with the case and put a dent the size of a walnut in it. That was about the only one I put in, though. That was a sweet horn, though. Sometimes I regret giving up playing.

I have a Miraphone 187 that I played through all of high school-it's a custom goldbrass model with a first-slide trigger. It's a great horn, and even though I plan on playing less now that I've graduated HS, I think I'll keep it. You never know where tuba skills will come in handy!
Nice to see that HC's opened this brass forum.

Come visit me and I'll pull one out of my band room for you and you can march the parade with my band at the end of July:D
It's not as good as a parade, but have you been to any of the Tuba Christmas or Octuba Festivals? Been to a lot of the Tuba Christmas and they are an absolute blast. You haven't heard anything until you've heard 220+ tubas and euphoniums playing Silent Night.

When I was in high school, the jazz band played one Christmas at the local mall along with a Merry Tuba Christmas group. Even from our little community of hicks and inbreds we had about 100 euphoniums and tubas!

I think there were three tubas in my high school band at any given time. We had a few euphoniums, too, but I've neever been in any kind of group that had more than maybe 4 tubas.
I can only imagine the air 100 Tubas must push at once.
I mean, a large marching band can just about knock you off your feet with a good blast.

The Alliance, NE marching band (town population: 9000) often has as many as six tubas and an equal number of euphoniums.
Practically the entire school is in band!

Where I live, there's a town about an hour away called Cairo, Ill. Their marching band comes down and marches in a lot of our parades.
While the bands from my county usually march straight ahead at complete attention, Cairo always shows them up by dancing, and generally looking like they're having a really good time.
My school's rival usually had about 5 tubas in their marching band. Their band was usually about 1.5 to 2 times the size of ours.
