I am the tech director of an Australian dance company that is touring in the U.S. at the end of the year. The lighting tech for the show recently finished a lighting course in Sydney and asked some of the instructors about lighting in the U.S.A. He was told that only U.S. qualified and union ticketed techs could be used!!!

Is this true? And does anyone know who is the authority to talk to in this area?

Cheers

I have worked with very good Non Union lighting techs and gawd awful union techs. It doesnt matter if they are in the union or not, just whether they are good. Most of the larger houses in the States will be union. Check with some of the dance companies in the areas you are touring to see what their tech directors/stage managers/tour managers think.
