Okay, I'm not familliar with lighting equipment at ALL, but I'm interested in finding out more about those oil screens (not sure what they're called, sorry)... the things you see alot with the 60's psychadelic bands. Sorry I'm being so vague, but its hard to describe... kind of like a projector type of thing.

Okay, sorry, they're called oil projectors.

I found one here http://www.coolstuffcheap.com/coolstuff/liqligproj.html

Anyways, does anyone use these?

I'm interested in one, but I don't know about the rainbow colors...

They are generally called oil wheels and are effects that you shine a light through.

The popular model in england is made by a company called Optikinetics (must have a website). The wheel is bolted to a shaft and motor (various gearbox options give different RPM). This fits to a metal holder that slides into many Optikinetics projectors like the Solar 250/575 over to the newer (but not better) K2's and K4's.

Optikinetics is very expensive so if you don't have a ton of money, look for used Solar 250's with oil wheels.

Another point. Oil wheels are expensive and don't necessarily last for years. It depends on how much use they have. They are glass generally so they can leak as well..

There are different colours available. I like the magenta and blue ones myself.

You can also use different effects in the projectors. There are all sorts available...

The Oil Wheel is best though ;)
