Anybody here built a guitar and used a wood veneer to allow a transparent finish on a less than perfect piece of wood? Just curious if once the veneer is applied, if there are any rules regarding finishing/staining (other than to tread extremely lightly with any sanding)...

The only thing to consider is sometimes the glue gets soaked into the veneer and does not like to take stain or dye very even. Using a specialty veneer glue can help a lot.
You can always tint your clear if that is an issue though.

Thanks for the tips, hadn't thought about a tinted clear coat as an option.
