Has anyone tried this out yet? It seems to accomplish a lot of problems for $479.00. It hooks up via USB, needs no PCI card, works with most software. I have a decent PC with a 3rd hard drive a CD-RW. Im just looking for a small project studio that I can record 2 tracks at a time. I have a good PC why buy a digital workstation? Is this too good to be true?

The US-428 is not a digital workstation. It's a remote controller for a DAW such as Cubase VST and Logic. But with built in audio and MIDI interfaces. And it comes with a special version of Cubasis VST.
I suggest you visit the US-428 forum at www.tascam.com (http://www.tascam.com) and ask around there. For some people it works perfectly, for others there are some known problems.
I have been considering purchasing a similar unit as the Tascam but am holding off for now.
Your sound card will let you record one track and possibly a second track at the same time. Most often you will get 16 bit quality, while I believe the Tascam will allow you to record at 24-bit.
These units, and there are many of them available, will allow you to record more than one track to your PC through the USB interface. That may or may not give you good quality because there are limitations to the USB channel. A lot of what I have read regarding USB devices is that some people experience this latency while others do not.
If you can try one (or buy one from a local store with an option to return within a few days) I would suggest you go ahead. But if you can't see the difference or don't find you need the multitrack funcitonality, you may not be getting the benefit of a $400 controller.
