havent posted here for ages, but i came here again to see what up and see if anyone could help.

Basically ive got a piii 500, 256ram, sblive(im soooo sorry and ashamed, ill will be kicking it out for a sw1000xg or an echo mina) and midisport 2x2 interface.

Basically im running cubase vst5 and its works fine but when i try to get it to play back beats done through halion and arpeggios and bass/leads done on my nova it sounds like someones djing v.v.badly and its all out of time. Everynow and again cubase trips up on its self and the sounds stops until it can sort itself out to carry on.

Im sure it has something to do with the drivers - not mme but direct sounds?? But i can seem to adjust the latency time, it seems to be stuck on 43millisec which is to high. Would this also affect the midi timing? Any ideas AT ALL would be well helpful cos at the moment im sampling all the sounds i want and using them in reason, which is good but a bit annoying to say the least.

http://people.freenet.de/apslive/

Uninstall your current drivers and then install these.

There is a forum in there somewhere as well if you want to say more of your specs.

It does not support W2K (last I heard) but do read all info.

I had 8ms but once I get out of my online game kick I will re-install these drivers.

------------------
Studio: 505 - ER1 - Cubase 5r7 - SB card (w APS drivers =8ms)
Win 98se - 600mhz - 512mbr - Advance 5/133E mobo - Via chipset (w 4in1 fix)

yeah.. get rid of you sb... unless you're using it for your mp3s...
and forget th sw1000xg too... also a huck of crap...
get an echo-audio card (mia, gina, layla or mona) or a delta card (audio-phile 24/96, delta 44, delta 66, delta 1010)
both lines of cards sound great, and are afordable...

43ms on an SBLive is just to short pal. 200 would be OK. Canīt bake cakes without eggs!!!
In the echo vs midiman stuff the echo converters are better I guess.

in http://web.ukonline.co.uk/hybriduk6/ theres a tutorial of how you must set up your system in order to get 9ms of latency. Im not sure if this 9ms works also for VST instruments. But check it out. I hope this helps:

I like the Echo cards also but why do you say the SW1000 is no good? Originally posted by blue halo:

Generally you're going to run into more latency problems with Windows systems because the OS threads processes and reserves processor cycles for other apps.

You can get around this somewhat by using a faster processor and running fewer apps in the background, ie turn off realtime virus protection, auto-update type apps, etc.
