recording problem

Help!

No matter what program (sonar) I use, whenever I record the playback sounds all scratchy. My soundcard seems all right. I've updated the drivers and there's no conflicts or anything like that. I import drum tracks from fruity loops and the playback is fine. Just when I record keyboards or guitar. Any suggestions?

Bad cable or plug??? Have you tried swapping them out with something different??

This is just a thought, but you might try turning the input/output levels down a bit. You can probably try opening the console mode in Sonar and watch the levels as you play - if you're in the red, you're gonna get distortion. You'd have to then drop the input levels in your soundcard's volume configuration utility accordingly. I don't know what soundcard you're using, but I know when I was using a Soundblaster Live! I had the levels below the halfway mark. You might have already tried these, so I apologize if that wasn't helpful!
