Can't record from midi keyboard

I am trying to record from my midi keyboard. I can't get anything to recoginze it. I have a SB Live! Value and am running Win2k. I have tried using software that came with the sound card and Noteworthy Composer.

Any Suggestions?

Check your cables (are they in the right holes)
Check your input/output settings in your software
Check the Windows mixer to make sure MIDI in enabled

Check to see if there is someone in your area that can take a quick look at it... it may be something very simple that would be hard to diagnose remotely.

I have tried all three of those things. I am begging to think that it might be the keyboard. One of the functions is the ability to turn keyboard output on or off. I can't set it to on or off. All I get is dashed lines. If you are wondering, I have a Yamaha PRS-370 keybaord.

try powering up your keyboard after you have your software ready to record. Sometimes if a keyboard is already poered, it won't be recognized.
