i am intrigued by the sonic posabilities of a software modular system. i like vaz modular in particular, but also wish to use any other soft studio that becomes avalable. however, i also have a thing for hardware sequencers. i would like to pair the two together, fusing the best of two worlds. is this a feasable idea? i mean will it work reliably? do any of you use this sort of setup now?
heres what i propose to use:
1)the computer will be an athalon 1.7 ghz on an asus kg7 motherboard running windows 2000 pro with maxed ram, a midiman midisport 2x2, and an M Audio Audiophile 2496.
2)a combination of sequencers and midi fader units including the Roland MC80, MC303, Boss DR5, and Peavey PC1600.
i dont want to use any of the big software programs like cubase or logic to compose with, although i really havent tried logic. i dont mind tweaking a midi performance a little after i record it, but i would prefer if it were to originate in my hardware sequencers.
the main point of all this is to be able to play any and all parts all at once, with no overdubs. i just want to tweak a session until it sounds right, and then perform while streaming to disk. after i can add any cool edits or mastering (ill most likely take my recording to a friends place where he can put it through his valve eqs and monitor it on his genelecs ;D)
so does midi have the bandwidth i will need for tight timing? i sincerely hope so, i sorta have my heart set on this.
thanks for your input!
