I need some help and advice on which audio card will perform best with the AMD K-7 processor. I currently am using Cakewalk Pro Audio8 and my soundcard is crap. I have heard that the M-Audio Delta 2496 soundcard is compatible with my processor and am about to purchase one. Does anyone out there know what other soundcards are compatible with my system? I do alot of recording at home in my modest studio and want to get rid of all the noises that come from a crappy soundcard. I am currently using the soundblaster PCI128 and it is junk but it is the one that came with my system. I now have the dollars to upgrade and need this advice from any of you techies out there who have knowledge about this system.

Most problems with AMD's and soundcards can be traced back to the motherboard, not the processor. I would first find out what type of motherboard is in your system and then do two things. Check the manufacturers website and see if they list potential problems with certain chipsets on the motherboard (http://www.midiman.net/support/FAQ/delta10.htm last question on page). And also go to www.audioforums.com (http://www.audioforums.com) under the soundcard forum ask if anyone has experienced problems with a similar setup as the one you propose (ie. Soundcard, motherboard and OS).
Yeah, most of the problems are with the VIA chipset installed on it. I´m with a 1G TB on a msi k7t pro2 board and I recently bought an audiowerk8 from emagic. I spent a whole day gettin huge system crashes when I tryed to access the card. Only reason was working (asio was OK). In dispair I installed win 2k and everything became just fine. Miracle I thought!!
This is just to tell that incompability prblems may come from anywhere. Just be sure that you get the option of returning it to the store. You really got to try it in your specific system.
Hope it helps,
