Hi... Im not much of a musician really.. I just love music, and love trying to play ( I find it relaxing, and stimulating ).. But my question is about what software if any I could mess around with... what I want to be able to do.. is compose music entirely on my computer ( Guitar, bass, drum, keys, effects, posible voice input w/ effects applied ).. I know this will probably be much more that one software package, but thats fine with me..... Also It must be free or have a long enough demo that I can convince myself to buy it.. considering its really only a hobby and not a career..Anyhow..... thanks in advance.....

(btw- I want the software to create all the instrument sounds.. and not input them in with a real intrument)

Try Band in a Box(pgmusic.com). Its not free...the basic package
is $88 and with all the styles, something like $250. You can also
record a vocal track (but just one track). There's also Jammer(soundtrek.com).

Both these are called "auto accompainment" programs. Both also have
demos online.

Hope this helps.

Forget Band in a Box, Fruityloops 2 is available for FREE on the web (just search for it on any engine). This is where I started and it is hours of fun.
