Well, in 1998, when I switched to v-drums, I "gave away" this kit along with the Ludwig snare and Zildjian cymbals for $900, including hard cases. At the time, I figured I got the Gretsch kit for $250 (see the other post), and had the Ludwig snare and Zildjian cymbals since the mid-70's, so I was doing ok with that price. (no wonder the first guy that came to see it bought it on the spot.) Now that I'm back on acoustic drums, I kick myself every once in a while when I think about it. :mad:


Any other sad stories out there? Or am I the only fool on the board.

No sad drum storys. But how about dragging the box end of a 24 channel FOH snake out of the back of a pickup truck for 30 miles down the interstate.

Not much left of that one but the wire..

We were wondering why we were getting strange looks and honks as we were driving home after the gig... LOL

And to those with possible windshield damage, Well im truely sorry.

Reminds me of the scene from National Lampoon's Family Vacation. Chevy Chase leaves grandma's dog tied to the bumper and then gets pulled over by the cops a few miles down the road.

1) About 4 years ago I had a custom snare that I built stolen out of my car. What's worse, I had only finished it 3 weeks prior.

2) Last october at a national "Battle of the bands" gig, my Stick Bag got stolen. I had 5 new pairs of Vater Simtty Power fusions (not easily available anymore), 2 pairs of hot rods, tymp. and cymbal mallets, and brushes. I also had all sorts of accessories like keys, extra felt, snare cords etc... That really hurt.... I mean really, who steals a stick bag... especially when it's sitting on a 300+ custom snare drum (a different custom snare drum).

My sad story is that I paid almost $5k for some Tempus drums back in AUGUST. I was promised 4-6 weeks. Then 6-8 weeks. Then oops, another month. Then January.... Now 6 months later, no kit and no word from Tempus since the last broken promise. I asked for my kit or a full refund so I can go buy a Mapex saturn.

OUCH! Yeah, I'd go for the refund and buy the Mapex kit. If Tempus is this slow when you want to buy a new kit, how slow will they be if you have a problem? Get your money out while you can. Sounds like they may be in the process of going under.

I regret the sale of almost every drum I ever sold.
1960 Transition badge, Ludwig Downbeat 4x14 in blue sparkle, got it for nothing, sold it for 375, buyer changed the hoops and flipped it for 550.
Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute with dual strainer, shouldnt have sold it.
Ayotte Drumsmith 6x14 maple......... nice drum. 225, brand new, sold it for 300. regret.

Sad story, my 1977 Rogers kit was set up in the church and someone felt compelled to move it for some insignificant reason. Shattered the shell at one of the spur mounts. It took five years to find a replacement BD in the right color. Ive had this kit for 27 years now.

Same story here with my Pearl DX kit I sold oh so may years ago. They were a combo of birch/mahogany/and some cheaper filler wood, and were close to top of the line Pearl way back when. I sold them like an idiot.
But comparing them to those beautiful Gretsch's is like comparing apples to oranges. I've always wanted a top line Gretsch kit, even though I am a Pearlaholic. Gretsch just has a wonderful tone that hits you right in the chest, IMHO. Even Porcaro used them in the studio almost exclusively.
