Yamaha seem to have discontinued part of their existing MG line and brought out for new ones.

"These four redesigned models, engineered and built by Yamaha, offer a number of feature additions, including single-knob compression on two inputs, switch-able monitor mix routing, upgraded components and enhanced cosmetics.

“Recently, we added single-knob compression into our popular EMX powered mixers with great results,” said John Schauer, product manager, Live Sound, Yamaha Pro Audio & Combo Division. “Adding it to the new MG mixers to provide improved sound quality only made sense.”

Existing MG10/2, MG8/2FX, MG12/4, and MG12/4FX models are being replaced by the MG102C, MG82CX, MG124C, and MG124CX, respectively. Carrying over from the former generation, the two "CX" models continue to offer SPX-quality digital effects and the MG102C and MG82CX remain mic stand mountable.

“The MG line of analog mixers has been successful beyond our most optimistic expectations,” said Wayne Hrabak, marketing manager, Live Sound, Yamaha Pro Audio & Combo Division. “This new generation of models is designed to build on this already strong level of acceptance.”

The MG124CX, MG124C, MG82CX and MG102C are scheduled to ship in January 2007."

The older ones had a pretty decent reputation as the pick of the bunch for cheapo mixers so it'll be interesting to see what these ones are like.

Anyone got any info or insight?

I just wish they would add at least one aux send to the MG82CX series.

yeah I just noticed that after I posted, thats really crap. There older series had two. How can you bring out a supposedly new improved line of mixers and lose an aux send? I'll be getting one of the older series at blowout price hopefully as I need two aux sends. I'd go for more if I could afford it right now.

The smaller ones never had an aux send either. You don't get an aux send with the old or new until you get at least 10 inputs. Then it depends on whether it's an fx model or not. The 12/4 without effects had two aux outs, but the one with effects had one (the other was the effects send).

I had the 16/6fx for awhile. It had two aux sends plus the one effects send. It's a solid if unspectacular mixer. My only real complaint about any of the line besides the shortage of aux sends is the awkward power brick.

The lack of even a single aux send on the smaller mixers seems to be an industry thing. The smaller peavey's don't have them either.

At least this one will have single knob compression. Haven't heard it but if it works it would be a nice feature to have that saves on adding an outboard unit and all the cables.

Aah, well yes I had been looking at the 10 and 12 input mixers. I want them in order to route different instruments to different inputs of my soundcard while theyre being played at once, which is why I'm looking so keenly for aux sends. Basically i've got enough ideas to make good use of 6 or 8 sends but I guess i'll have to wait until I can afford some Allen & Heath gear for that!! hehe.

Still, bottom line, i'll take an aux send over two compression channels and a darker lick of paint any day :thu:
