so they arrived
2 nx55p monitors/super kick ass pa/ super great stereo substitute
http://www.musiciansbuy.com/mmMBCOM/images/yorkville/yorkville_NX55P_Handle.jpg
first basic description, super low weight if you consider it has a mini mixer, big power, nice speakers
the mixer: has treble and bass control on the EQ side...it seems it has the greatest mids in the world so the didnt add mid control...
it also has an input volume for the mic and the line (one each), with a master control
it has 1 mic in, 1 line in, 1 cd in
it links via loop with other speakers, it can use xlr or 1/4''
now for a little review, this things are simply incredible, last nights jam had the best sounding piano, voice, and when we took a break pink floyd was turned ON it sounded pristine, super smooth and clear! incredible, did i mention we only used 1......i can say it would be super sonic with 2...
prestine, powerfull, easy to use, nice to handle, super portable, now i can say we have super sonic power...
also, we connected 2 of the nx55p and filled the street with sound, super clean, super loud...very impresive...not sure what speaker the system has but they totally kick butt
Yeah I got to get me a pair of those. Congrats.

Congrats :)
I got mine a few weeks ago. I will gig with them once my system is complete. Can't wait to test them in a decent sized room. Looking forward to it.

I own 4 of the NX550P's and I must disagree with the "greatest mids". I actually think the mids are the weak point of the speaker. Don't get me wrong, for the price they are great and can be EQ'd for better mids, but there are cabinets out there with better vocal clarity. The EV's, for instance.
I can assure you they didn't leave out the "mids knob" because the mids are so great they never need adjusting ;)

Abzurd,
What EV would you prefer over the nX?

Just making a general comment. I've heard the Sx boxes and thought they did a good job with vocals. We also use Qrx mains in the larger PA. It's not really a fair comparison though as they are $1000+ passive boxes (the 153 and the 115).
I love my NX's but am actually looking for another 12" powered box for FOH for the smaller rig. We use it at about 80% of our shows and the NX's don't throw very far, and aren't as articulate as I'd like. Of course there is a premium for this. I'll likely have to pay considerably more.
I'm considering the RCF Art 322-A, but can't find any to demo. The RCF people were supposed to send a pair to a retailer in town, but have apparently flaked. They said a pair was on the way, but that was 2-3 weeks ago. I emailed a few days ago and it went unanswered. Support for a product that's not well known is my main hesitation. If that's the service I'm gonna get they can keep em'.
Also looking at the new Zx line from EV. Unfortunately, besides the fact there is no active version, there is no 12" model either. I find that odd because there are 2, 15" models. Space is big concern as the entire PA has to fit in a compact SUV.

The NX55Ps are best suited for shorter throw applications where quality of sound is important. Even at high output levels, they remain very ear friendly, lacking the excess mid frequencies present is most PA speakers. I enjoy listening to all my music on these cabs and have used them as monitors in my home studio. ***I choose to use my other cabs however (Wharfedale EVP-X15s) for bar gigs, outside parties, car shows or where I think people will want it loud and where the sound needs to travel further....It depends on what the event calls for. All my weddings and anniversaries automatically get my NX55P + LS700P setup. I have had nothing but compliments on the sound. Al Poulin - Party-Time! DJ Services

I heard a pair of RCF 12" powered speakers on sticks over 15 inch subs in a function hall last week. I'm not sure what model they were but man, those things were clear and they could throw. The room was fairly large by my standards, about 80 x 120', held about 800 guests in my estimation. It was mostly speech with some background music but there were dance and karaoke performances in between. The punch and clarity were what impressed me the most.
My 55s may not be able to keep up with those tops. I got them for a different application. I have no intention of doing rooms that size, nor do I plan to do run sound for live bands. What I have in mind is canned music for crowds up to 300 tightly packed in much smaller rooms. Given this price level and the intended application, the 55s are just what I want.

With the 100hz filter engaged and a sub or subs handling the lows, those little NX55PS can get surprisingly loud for their size. One good thing, is if you are using them full range and playing a song with a lot of bass - even if the limit light is flashing on and off, you can still put the level up on your mixer and the speaker will get louder while you will notice the lower frequencies are being reduced (rolled off) by the internal processing (filter). I decided to try it this weekend and it actually works. Their is a clip light that is supposed to light up if you're really pushing it too much but... the limiting and rolling off seem pretty effective. Altough, eventually it does have an audible effect on the sound so, best not to do this too much - or simply reduce the bass on bass heavy songs. Al Poulin - Party-Time! DJ Services
