I picked up my new Yamaha DG Stomp digital amp modeler and I'm ready to try to record anythiing via my Mac G3 (B&W) into Pro Tools Free. I'm running the signal from the mono line out into the Mac's audio input (using a 1/4 to 1/8" coverter). How do I get sound through the system? How can I tell if the sound fmor the DG is getting into the Mac? I've got a pair of Yamaha speakers connected to my Mac, but I'm not getting any guitar sounds out of them.

I'm totally new to all this, so please help me out before I blow something up!

Thanks,
jim

Get a simple program like Coaster, that will let you record from the input on the mac. Go to 'Sound' in the 'Control Panels' and see what you have selected for the sound input.

I would point out that the input on a Mac is in stereo so I don't know if you should be plugging in a mono feed or not. It can work sometimes and other times you will be pushing current down the ground line in the Mac which isn't such a great thing. I always recommend some sort of line mixer that outputs stereo to the Mac. In this way, you can plug in anything from tape decks and CD players in to the desk and they all result in the same place, the Mac's input...

Good luck
