I gather from quite a few on this and other forums that an interface like and Emagic emi 2/6 can't record more than a few tracks and its a waste of money....

Interspersed with those are the ones that use it and love it....

the argument is, get a MOTU 828 and forget USB audio, but how could a company release a product like the emi 2/6 and have its consumers only get a few tracks??? how is that possible?? if that was true, wouldn't Emagic be taking a huge risk to its reputation...

I'm ready to just buy the damn thing, try it, see for myself, and be done with it...hopefully, maybe someone out there, a real user, has an honsest, straightforward answer for me....

I personally don't like USB. For that matter I don't really like Firewire (yet) either. USB wasn't meant to be used for Digital Audio which requires a lot of bandwidth. It was meant to be used for printers, mice, scanners and the like (not for hard disks, CD-R's, etc.)

I owned a 2 I/O USB unit and has problems just recording even two tracks sometimes. And it's not really the companies fault--you just have to learn to expect that you WON'T get very professional results from USB units.

Firewire's a whole other story, and to be honest the only Firewire unit I'd take a look at would be the one my MetricHalo (their Mobile I/O 2882). Of course YMMV on any of these products, but if you buy something cheap now, then you'll be buying something to replace it in a month. Take it from me, I've already bought a USB AND a Firewire interface and have returned them BOTH for something that was originally suggested to me (RME Multiface).

Hope this is at all useful.
