Hey y'all--

I'm kind of a rookie at all this, so please bear with me. And thanks in advance for any advice.

Anyhow, I have a Mac Powerbook G4 and a Roland RS-5 synth, and I would like to be able to record my musical ideas using the Powerbook, as well as mixing in multi-tracked vocals and possibly guitar. The Omni I/O looks like a great all around piece of equipment, and midiman claims that you can get good results on a laptop by using it in conjunction with their Audiosport Quattro USB Midi interface. Does anyone have experience with this setup? What kind of results did you get? Did you find that the USB interface limited you to a certain number of tracks? Also, how do you think the Quattro compares with the MOTU 828? (I imagine the MOTU must be better, using FireWire and all, but it's just so damn expensive!)

Finally, can you recommend a good beginning sequencing software program (that costs less than Digital Performer!)? For example, Logic AV or Cakewalk Metro 5?

Thanks!

Hi,

I've used both USB and Firewire solutions before. I returned both of them.

USB--just depends on how many tracks you want to record. Also depends on how specific you are with you're sound. It could be just fine, but if you want something to sound professional, you must buy professional.

Hope this helps,
