First off, I'm new to the digital recording world.
So, I've decided to purchase the MOTU 828 to record some music. I also want to buy an external hard drive because I, frankly, don't have enough room on my ibook to store anything. Plus, then I can mess with the tracks on my G4 desktop without worrying about transfering any files.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to set this up? Any specific hard drive suggestions? Should I get a USB hard drive and partition the drives and set up an OS on it? Should I run the audio program on my local hard drive and keep the files on the external. I have only one firewire connection that'll be dedicated to the MOTU.
Pretty confused. I'll take any suggestions... how'dya anyone set up their equipment with a similar situation?

A USB hard drive will most likely not be fast enough for digital audio. I would consider getting a fast Firewire HD (7200 RPM) and get a Firewire hub to plug it into.

Seconded... Keep away from USB HD's unless speed is not an issue. Never consider USB HD's for media work...

I heard that the new Maxtor external FW HD's are very very fast and that should do for both Audio and Video. I doubt they are that cheap but it's worth the money if you are serious about the music making. The bonus is that you can plug and play between the iBook and the G4. Nice...!
