OK- I have the Old version of iTunes. When I download music Should I download it into Real Player, Quick time player or what? not really sure what's going on. I did download some music that went right into the real player. I would the documents and tried to convert them into MP3s for iTunes. no luck. What should I do? I also need some good sites to get some music downloads.
Thanks

You really just want to download mp3s to your hard drive. Otherwise it'll likely just play it (QT, RM or whatever) and then delete it when you close the window. You can set iTunes to automatically recognize mp3s that you download. As for downloading, mp3.com still has some good finds. Not a lot of options out there right now..

What's happening is one of your apps (probably Real Player) has become the default mp3 player for your mac. You can change this from within the Real Player prefs (I think) OR change it in Netscape or IE.

BTW: My files get saved as QT.mp3's and I use SoundJam or iTunes for playback.

"not a lot of options right now" ...?

Try Hotline (www.hotlinesw.com) and/or AudioGalaxy (www.audiogalaxy.com), those are the best programs to use to download music. There are a TON of other programs that do the same thing but not as well. Remember though, don't download mp3s of songs that you don't actually own cause thats illegal.. BTW www.mp3.com (http://www.mp3.com) is pretty sorry. The best completely legit site to download mp3s from is www.emusic.com, (http://www.emusic.com,) they have an excellent selection of stuff.
Also, like what gtrdave said, you go into the program helpers or something like that under preferences in your web browser, for .mp3 files change it to quicktime or itunes or whatever you want. Peace.

Not a lot of legit options, obviously. Just my own personal experience, but ripping CDs is usually 100x faster than trying to find them somewhere online.

Deftones,

Real player along with some other apps like to take control of your system and decide for you what software you use to play back some files. Get a free application called SoundApp and load the Mp3's into that. Go to save and then select cancel.

All this does is change the identifier for the file so realplayer can't exclusively use it. You can now drag it to Quicktime OR iTunes without problems...
