Has any other manufacturer brought out a firewire break out box that does the same thing as the 828? Actually, something with 4 in / 4 out might be adequate for a lot of home studio types and save some $$$ in the bargain.
Anything available ?
You know, I heard someone speak about another company with one in the works, but I haven't been able to find any information about it yet. I thought I heard that Yamaha was working on one. <shrug>

The MH box looks VERY nice, and does a number of things that the 828 does not, but it also costs considerably more.
I like the Neutriks for the XLR-1/4" combo inputs on channels 1&2 as it makes cabling up an 828 to a Mackie 1604VLZ much simpler (run 8 balanced cables from direct outs on channels 1-8 to the inputs, 8 balanced from 828 outputs to channel 9-16 inputs).
As far as I know MH and MOTU are the only game in town for a Firewire-based breakaway box.
