Hello,
I have just got my computer:

- G4 400Mhz.
- 1408Mb RAM!!!!!
- 2x hard disk ( 10gb + 40 gb)
- 2x screens + 2x video cards

So I am about to decide which soundcard to get.The MOTU 828 or the Digidesign 001.

I was almost decided already for the MOTU 828 until I realized it has no midi interface.I mean, it can be added but at the end the price of both are almost equivalent.Ofcourse, the DIGI001 has a midi in/out.
So could I bave opinions and reccomendations? Thanks.

I run a MOTO828 with my Powerbook G4 and although I like this unit a lot, its still firewire based which can't really compare in performance to PCI interfaces. Anything that's really processor intensive kinda sucks with the current lot of firewire units (which I believe is the MOTU and only a few others?)

my two cents,

Hii,
yesterday I went to my local music dealer (which happens to be the biggest in belgium, holland and luxembourg) and talked with the digital audio computer specialist.I asked him abouth the two cards -Digi001 and Motu 828. 5 said that the Motu doesn't have midi interface but that it can be added by a separate add-on for a little money. At the end both cards cost more or less the same. So I asked in his mind what was better. He right away answered " MOTU 828 is more efficient. He said that the Digidesign has a big name and that is one of the main reasons of its good sale rate.He even went so far as to say that the converters of the Digi001 "suck" !!! What do you think.Thanks.

I don't think they suck. They are quite good.

However, the Digidesign stuff was DESIGNED to work with Digidesign software. So, if you're using something other than ProTools, you're going to have latency problems.

Frankly, I'd check out the MAudio Delta 1010. Same ins/outs AND Midi and about $200-$300 (US) less than an 828 and 001.
