It depends on you and how much you want to spend. I wanted a machine that could do audio recordings and DV editing. I had no need for the Superdrive because by the time software comes out for the new OS 10.1, there will be a better and cheaper drive.
I got a G4 733 mhz. Sure, that power for and 800's would be nice but it's more than enough power that I'll need and I can use the money for a nicer and larger monitor.
Just remember to add a second harddrive/7200.
You can get memory and harddrives cheap at macmall.com.
Thanks.
I just got the computer yesterday.Actually I'm picking it up tonight. It is:
1x Mac G4 400Mhz + 384 Mb RAM+ 2 hard disks ( 20+ 10 Gb)
2x 17 screens (apple and sony)+ 2x video cards
And a lot of cool software.
All for $ 1300.00!!!!

You got a good deal!
FYI: I've got a G4 350 (the original) w/ 3 internal drives (1 SCSI III Quantum Atlas on an Orange Micro SCSI card), 480M RAM and I run Deck II, ProTools 5.0.1, MicroLogic, Peak, Performer and Vision (and other software).
The G4 is an awesome machine and great for audio use.
Yea! It is a good deal!!!
I'm adding tommorow 512Mb ram more.to have a total of about 900MB RAM!!!!!cool!!!
And I'm selling the 10GB hard disk and replacing it with a 40 GB one!!!!
I'm really happy. Also the detail of having two screens an two video cards is very handy. For pasting audio on long lines of information.
I'll be getting the MOTU 828 soon!!!

Congratulations for the deal!!
I bet you are in the USA enjoying your Apple. Mac users here in Europe have to pay moer than twice the price for the same products so we are stuck with more limited machines...
More or less the same thing as with guitars. A tatty Les Paul from the 70's are found for not much money in pawn shop around the country. Here in Europe people call them "vintage" and ask for 3 to 6 times what you would consider a fair price in the States...
Hey!!!
Don't get me wrong. I'm European too. I live in Spain but I've bought the computer here in Belgium!!!!!
So that proofs that us europeans can get cheap stuff if we search enough.
So I AM enjoyng my Apple. But not in the USA , but in our beloved Europe.
