computer frezzz problem

I have a G4 Running os 9.0.1 My squencer of choice is DP 2.7. Problem is after using D.P to record a few songs, and exit and try to go to another application the folder would open but will be blank. when I go to the shot down nothing will happen I'll have to Hard Restart the computer and then go into the application. and this only after using DP. has any one had this problem or have an idea of how to solve it.
